When I started putting together the character Seykahr Amrod, I began laying out all the pieces and parts to his outfit and accessories. This would, of course, include a Jedi belt. I found some on Amazon for around $50, but when they showed up they weren’t a match for my girth!
My other option, to get a belt that would fit me, was to order custom of off Etsy. Rather than spend $200-300 on a custom belt, I decided to invest that money in tools and learn to make my own belt.
Want to learn leatherworking? As with any new skill, the top three things to be successful are:
- Practice
- Practice
- Practice
If I were to add a fourth slot, I’d say “a little bit of luck”.
So in order to be able to make my belt, I first learned to make wallets. Many ended up in the scrap heal before I found one that I would carry. And nothing beats full grain leather (in my opinion) for a wallet in my pocket.
I like this design. It’s simple. It’s clean. It’s small. (Twice today I went looking for my wallet. It was in my pocket all along!) And it holds more than you would think.
