A few years ago I bought my Figment shoulder sitter. You’ve seen them in the parks, they have Groot, Grogu, Remy with a magnet in their bottom and a metal plate that you put under the fabric of your shirt.
I had problems with him falling off as the strap to my park bag would bump him. So I tried two things.
- I moved the lil guy to my hat. It doesn’t matter if I’m wearing a bucket hat or a fedora, he was in a more convenient spot for me to move around and get in and out of my park bag.
- I upgraded the magnets. I bought these off of Amazon, and opened the seam on Figment’s derrière to insert one. After closing him up, I found that I was best off using a second one magnetically attached to the plate.
After the upgrade, Figment was much more secure and could take some pretty heavy wobbles as I danced and moved through the parks.
Another fun upgrade I did with the lil guy was to make some park totems for him to carry. Each day he would carry the totem for the park we were visiting.
- Magic Kingdom – Cinderella’s Castle with Mickey Ears (Get the model from Thingiverse)
- Epcot – Spaceship Earth (aka The Golfball) (Get the model from Thingiverse)
- Hollywood Studios – Millennium Falcon (Get the model from Thingiverse)
- Animal Kingdom – The Animal Kingdom sign (Get the model from Thingiverse)
I found that people were gaga over this lil thing sitting on my head and would receive comment after comment each day. The exchange usually went a few different ways.
“I love your Figment/hat!” to which I would reply “Thank you!”
“There’s a Figment on your head!” I was obliged to mess with them. “Hmm?” “There’s a Figment on your head.” (this is when I knew I had set the hook, now to reel ’em in) “I’m sorry, it must be a Figment of your Imagination” (insert groan, laugh, or “waaa waaaa”
“Oh my gosh! What is that on your hat?!” and this would lead into a fun conversation.
The real delight came from the cast members recognizing the totem and appreciating that little touch.
It definitely made the trip more magical!
